Kathmandu – the Long Way
A holiday in Kathmandu sounded great – but overland? And in a month? We sent journalist Nick Jones to see if it was really possible.
"I liked the idea. I always wanted to go to Nepal and they were going to give me a month – fantastic. But then they told me. Most of the holiday wasn't in Kathmandu at all. It was in an old Ford lorry. My reward was going to be five days in the capital of Nepal before flying back to London.
"When I saw the lorry, things didn't get any better. Until I went inside. There were beds, a fridge, a sofa and even a television. I cheered up immediately.
"And the journey was incredible. We left London planning to get to Turkey as fast as possible, and there the real journey began. Incredible mountains, vast deserts and everywhere wonderful people. It was the holiday of a lifetime.
"But the best thing was Kathmandu. After three weeks on the road, the Kathmandu Guest House was like a dream. Even compared to our lorry."
Nick travelled with Miles Away Travels. He stayed in Kathmandu courtesy of the Kathmandu Guest Hotel and returned to the UK with British Airlines.

It's the year 2025. The Hilton have announced the opening of the Lunar Hilton. You are one of a select group of journalists invited by the Hilton on the first trip to stay in the hotel.
Write an article for your newspaper informing readers about the holiday. Write about 150 words. Include information about the journey, the hotel and the thing you liked most about the holiday.
