Match the sign texts to what they mean.

2. Obligation, prohibition and recommendation.

What is each sentence expressing; obligation, prohibition or recommendation?

Remember: Must and mustn't can be used to express obligation and prohibition, but we can also use them to make recommendations. The meaning is always clear from the context, from the situation.

For example:
You must line up here for tickets. = an obligation
You mustn't smoke here. = a prohibition
You mustn't miss the antique market. = a recommendation
You must see the cathedral. = a recommendation

3. Can you remember?

Choose the correct option to complete each sentence.

Remember: Don't have to ... means that something is not necessary to do, that there is no obligation.

For example:

We don't have to have breakfast at 7. We can come any time until 12.
