During and for

During + period of time means "all through the period of time" or "at some point in the period of time", and answers the question "When?".

• Mr Shapcott also wants staff to speak English during lunch breaks.

For + quantity of time means "all through that time" and answers the question "How long?".

• Most of the staff had been with him for many years.
