General instructions for the Writing paper
In this paper you have to write two compositions. One composition (Part 1) is on a compulsory topic and for the other composition (Part 2) you have a choice of three titles.
After completing the two tasks you will send them to your tutor for marking and feedback.
Instructions for Part 1
This is Part 1, the compulsory topic. Do not spend more than 40 minutes on this first part.
In this part you are given an essay title and two ideas clearly linked to the title. The title is a subject of general interest. You have to think of a third idea linked to this title and then write an essay giving and justifying your opinion. In your essay you will need to use language functions such as expressing opinions, evaluating, justifying, persuading and hypothesising. Write between 140 and 190 words.
To get a real indication of your writing strengths and weaknesses, and for your own benefit, don't use dictionaries or spellcheckers when you do these tasks. You won't be able to do it in the real FCE exam.
You must answer this question. Write your answer in 140-190 words in an appropriate style.

In this part you select one task from a choice of three. You will have a choice of text types, for example, an article, an email or letter, a report, or a review. You will be given information about the context, the reason for writing and the target reader. Write between 140 and 190 words.
