Different opinions about using coursebooks
Speaker 1
Yes, I usually use the coursebook very much the way it is. I don't change the material much. In general, it works very well in class. It was written by a person with a lot of experience, so the lessons are practical and easy to use. Also, there are good ideas in the Teacher's Book, you know, like tips for new teachers, extension activities – that kind of thing. Another reason for using it as it is is that you don't need to spend a lot of time preparing lessons.

Well, I've been teaching for a long time, and so I have a lot of materials of my own. They do take a long time to prepare, but I like to use these. I think it's important for the teachers to like the material that they are using. If the teacher is not excited about the material, how can the children be? Also, I think it's important to be flexible in class, to respond to problems the children are having. It's a danger for teachers, I think, that sometimes the book dictates more what happens in the class than the actual needs of the children do.
