We can use -ing forms as the subject of a sentence.

• Using less hot water means lower carbon dioxide emissions.
• Washing dishes is boring.
• Not remembering people's names annoys me.

-ing forms can also be used as the object or complement in a sentence.

• I like cooking. (object)
• My hobby is collecting stamps. (complement)
