My India Trip

November 5
We arrived in Delhi two hours late. But luckily my driver was there waiting for me, and he drove me to my hotel near Connaught Place. When we arrived at the hotel it was late, and I was very tired after travelling for 36 hours. I went to bed immediately. The bed was great, very comfortable. A good sleep.

November 6
In the morning I explored Connaught Place. I walked around Central Park, where they have a very big Indian flag. Then I visited the Hanuman temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Delhi. Later I met my friend Divya, she’s in Delhi to make a documentary film. We had lunch at the Masala Trail, where you can eat typical Indian food. Delicious! Tomorrow Divya and I are planning to visit Old Delhi together.

November 7

Divya met me at the hotel and we took a taxi to the Red Fort. This is the place where the emperors of India lived. We saw the big hall where the emperor met visitors. We also saw the Mumtaz Mahal, the palace where the women lived. After that we went to the spice market. It was spectacular! It’s one of the biggest spice markets in Asia. But it was very crowded so we didn’t stay very long. We took a taxi back to Connaught Place. I said goodbye to Divya, because tomorrow she is flying to Mumbai for work.

Monday is the climax of the carnival when there is the big parade. There will be more than 60 bands and mobile sound systems and hundreds of dancers in colourful costumes. There will also be 38 sound systems in different places, playing a variety of music styles like reggae, dub, dancehall and rare groove. So get ready to dance!

Dave McIvor
I’m here! Rebecca was waiting for me in the main square. Staying at her house for three nights. Then going to a student apartment in Terrassa. Rebecca went to work, so I went for a walk. Barcelona is nice – fantastic weather! Hope you’re well.

Dave McIvor
In Terrassa now, in my new flat. Sharing with 2 other people: Carmo from Portugal (she’s studying film) and Italian guy called Benno – he’s also doing electrical engineering. Had a meeting with the Erasmus organisers and all the other Erasmus students. Going to the university tomorrow to choose our classes. Phone tomorrow evening, OK?

Dave McIvor
About my flatmates: they are nice, I like them a lot. Restaurants aren’t cheap, so we eat at home in the evenings. We do the shopping together, but Benno cooks, he’s very good. I make salads and Carmo washes the dishes – she doesn’t like cooking . Benno’s English is not very good, so we always speak Spanish together. It’s fantastic, I’m learning a lot! Happy I did that Spanish course last summer…

  22:47

Dave McIvor
I have my timetable. Do 5 hours a day – chemistry, environmental technology, materials science and technology, calculus plus 4 hours of practical lessons. Mid-term exams in November and we also have to do some projects, a lot of work . Lessons start on Monday. Everything OK with you? How’s Molly?

  11:32

Dave McIvor
Oops, sorry didn’t answer, very busy. Friday tomorrow, only one class ! First week was good, classes are interesting, but it’s really hard for me. Theory classes all in Spanish – very stressful!

Dave McIvor
How’s it going? Molly better? Erasmus organizing a trip to the Dalí Museum in Figueres on Sunday and tomorrow afternoon going down to BCN with Benno and some other friends – big holiday there. Free concerts in the streets . Phone Sunday evening, OK?
