Sounds wrong to me!

Like smells, sounds have an amazing ability to transport us back, even to our earliest childhood memories. I remember the smell of my first leather schoolbag on my first day of school, as I do the sound of the key in the lock of the front door of the house I grew up in. Even just a snippet of a sound can be enough to reel in those powerful memories of other times and the people and things that inhabited them. However, outside the realm of our memories, sounds have a far less reliable lifespan, especially in the world of technology. Electronic technology evolves, and so do the sounds it makes, which means that many of the hums, buzzes and dings lodged in the back of our minds will mean nothing to tomorrow's teens. That said, I don't understand why these familiar sounds that technology makes are so often misrepresented in film and television. The other night I was watching something and one of the characters was using an iPhone which made a beep sound as he hung up. But an iPhone doesn't make any sound when you do this. This is but one of many such incidents I have observed. Surely a great number of viewers use these devices day in and day out and have done so for years. Do the people who produce these programmes believe that we won't notice? To tell the truth, I find this mildly offensive.
