want to go / like going
Want is usually followed by an infinitive.
Like is usually followed by the -ing form of a verb.
  • They want to look good.
  • They don't like wearing jeans.

  • Most politicians like their clothes to look unusual.
  • Teenagers today prefer their clothes to look different to their parents' clothes.
  • Many middle-aged people today want their clothes to be comfortable.
  • Youngsters hate their sweatshirts to have trendy logos.
  • Toddlers love their clothes to be trendy.

The verbs like, love, prefer, want and hate can all follow the pattern:

subject + verb + object + infinitive + adjective/noun
