Match the verbs to their definition.

Get on (with)

  • Stuart gets on with almost anyone.
  • It's amazing how well we all get on.

The phrasal verb get on (with) has two patterns.

singular noun + get on + with + noun

  • Lucy gets on with her mother.

or

plural noun + get on

  • Lucy and her mother get on.

Other verbs that take this pattern (with with) are break up, go out, get along, make up, split up and fall out.

This verb also takes the pattern, but with from: grow apart.

 

2. Verb pattern: get on (with).

Rewrite each sentence to make a new sentence that is similar in meaning.

For example:

    My wife and I don't get on.
    I don't get on with my wife.
