Transcript: Interview – Part 2

Interviewer:
Right. You mentioned concentration before. Do you think that, when you are racing, it's a mind game, that you have to be concentrating 100 percent on what you are doing so that you can gain the advantage over the other drivers?
Leo:
I think that the moment you start to think too much it slows you down. So, you just have to .... do it. That's all. It's like any sport. All the drivers on the track are good. You are performing under stress. It's important to take advantage of opportunities that arise out there on the track. And it's all happening in real time. Time is the most important factor, you are chasing time. Obviously skill is very important as well, but to win, it's all about time.
Interviewer:
As a driver, do you feel that you are learning from each race? Do you feel that you are developing?
Leo:
Inevitably, I think. As I said, you are part of a team, you know, there are the mechanics, the engineers, the pit crew, the analysts, management, everybody. And everyone is looking for ways to make things work better, to improve the car and the team efficiency. So, in that respect, I feel that, like everybody else, you are thinking about what you're doing and thinking about how you can do it better. It's amazing, but you really do get drawn into it, to racing, and you become obsessed. Of course, the engine and the tyres are the most important elements, but the minor details are important, too. It's everything, the smallest button or switch, the seat that you sit in. Everything matters.
