A: General information about the reading test

In the following exercise you will review general information about the reading module.

1. The reading module.

Read the information about the reading module and choose the most suitable heading for each paragraph. There are two headings which you do not need to use.

B: Matching tasks

In this group of exercises you will review the matching task type.

TIP:

Being familiar with and practising the different ways of reading a text, for example, skimming, scanning and reading for detail, will help you to complete the reading test successfully.

 

1. Statement completion.

Complete each of the following statements with the best ending from the box below. Remember that the questions which follow all refer to the text you have read in Unit 1A.

2. Matching.

The text in Unit 1A contains a number of opinions expressed by different people. Match each opinion with the people in the box below. See the text again.

3. Paragraph summary.

The reading passage in Unit 1A has seven paragraphs, A-G. Which paragraph mentions the following? See the text again.

C: Completion tasks

In this group of exercises you will review the sentence and summary completion task type.

TIP:

Looking carefully at the question and sentences or table you have to complete will show you exactly which information to look for in the text.

 

1. Sentence completion.

Complete the sentences below with words taken from the text in Unit 1A. Use NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer. See the text again.

2. Summary completion.

Complete the summary of Paragraph B using four words from the box below.

3. Table completion.

Now use the information in Paragraph B to complete the table below. See Paragraph B again. Type numbers in the boxes.

D: Other tasks

In this group of exercises you will review other completion task types, like multiple choice, diagrams and flow charts, and Yes/No/Not given types.

1. The Academic reading module.

Choose the best answer (A-D) to complete the sentence.

2. Diagrams and flow charts.

Complete the notes which explain how to approach a text in the reading module.

3. Yes/No/Not given.

Do the following statements agree with the views of the writer of the reading passage in Unit 1A? Select:

  YES if the statement agrees with the writer
  NO if the statement disagrees with the writer
