Transcript for "Children as Learners"

Teacher 1: I love all those great posters up in your classroom. What's that all about?
Teacher 2: Oh, yes, they're part of our latest project.
Teacher 1: Really? They look great.
Teacher 2: Yeah, it all started one day when we were talking about types of sites on the Internet.
Teacher 1: Uh-huh.
Teacher 2: Yeah, and then the topic of personal pages came up, you know, like on Facebook or whatever.
Teacher 1: Right.
Teacher 2: So then we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of having a personal page on the Internet. Then we decided to design our own class page. Well, it was their idea, really.
Teacher 1: Great!
Teacher 2: Yeah, first the kids decided what they wanted to include, you know, like what information, photos, even videos and music. And then different groups worked on different designs for the page. That's what the posters are about.
Teacher 1: Ah, I see.
Teacher 2: So, then we put up the posters and the kids voted on which design they liked the best – the one they wanted to use.
Teacher 1: They must be really motivated.
Teacher 2: Yes, very! It's been great. And this is just the end of stage one. Now we are actually making the page, so they have to take the photos, do short video interviews, draw pictures and things. It'll probably take us all year. But, the kids are so excited about it and incredibly motivated. It's been a great way of getting everyone to work together, and it's created such a positive attitude in class.
