Description: A photo

1. Description.

Read this description of a photo and answer the questions.

This photo was taken when I was in London in the mid-’70s. That’s me on the left. I’m wearing a jacket that I had bought in a shop in Hastings, where I was living at the time. I’ve long since lost it. The guy on my left is a friend of mine from university, who was visiting London with his girlfriend. In fact, it was his girlfriend who took the photo. The photo was taken in the garden of a pub in London, in Notting Hill Gate. You can see that I am holding a half-drunk pint of beer. We had just been to the antiques market in Portobello Road, so presumably it was a Saturday. The book that my friend is holding is an old photo album that he had bought in the market. (I wonder if he has still got it.) The old lady on the far right is also enjoying a break after a heavy morning’s shopping, no doubt.

I’m fond of this photo because it captures something of the feel of the period – the clothes, the jewellery, the hair. Also, these were friends I am still in touch with, nearly 30 years later.
