Word stress in long words

1. Word stress.

Listen to the words, and then drag them to the correct column.

Note: As a rule the stress in long words is on the third syllable from the end.

In words that end in -tion, or -ic the stress is on the second syllable from the end.

Adding -ed (past) or -es (plural) to a word does not affect the stress.

Reported in Central Africa for more than 200 years, this is said to be a large reptile that lives in swamps, lakes, and river systems. Eyewitnesses say that it has an elephant-like body. Some have speculated that mokele-mbembe is a small dinosaur. This possibility is dismissed by most scientists. There is no good physical or photographic evidence, but there is one good sighting report, from a zoologist in 1983.
