1. Tense review: Present perfect continuous.

Kevin started collecting photos three years ago. He is still collecting them.
= Kevin has been collecting photos for three years.

Complete sentence B so it has the same meaning as sentence A.

Kevin has been collecting photos for three years.
He has collected over a thousand.

3. Past participles as adjectives.

Kevin collects found photos.

A found photo is a photo that has been found. Found is a past participle that is used as an adjective.

Here are some more examples from the text in READING:

Found photos are those photos that turn up in junk shops or in the hidden compartments of used furniture or lying on the floors of deserted houses.

Use the word in brackets to make a past participle that describes the objects.

4. Past participles after nouns.

“My all-time favorite is a photo taken sometime in the ’50s.”

This is a shorter way of saying ...a photo which was taken….

Delete words in the sentences to make noun + past participle combinations.

5. Participles: Review.

Put the word on the left in its correct place in the sentence.

6. Making deductions.

Apparently the photos were taken by her husband.
It seems / It appears that the photos were taken by her husband.
= The photos seem/appear to have been taken by her husband.

Complete sentence B so it has the same meaning as sentence A.

7. Describing appearances.

It looks like they are swimming.
It looks as if
It seems like
It seems as if
   
They seem to be swimming.

 

Respond to the following questions, like this:

"Do you think they are swimming?"
"Yes, it looks like they are swimming."

or
"Yes, they seem to be swimming."
